Engineering Practices

  • We are an Agile SCRUM / Lean UX shop, with small teams iterating on small problems. We use a rotating SCRUM master and an additional preflight meeting - a quick walk through explaining how you will tackle a problem (and any relevant alternatives), thereby facilitating integration between different subsystems and providing feedback from engineers prior to spending significant time writing code.

  • Because it is important to truly understand user experience, customer needs & pain points, and target market fit, engineers are required to perform / assist with user research.

  • Software complexity is reduced by hiding implementation details behind high-level abstractions.

  • All products are grounded in user research.

  • UX decisions are based on concepts from Lean UX, UI is Communication, Engineering-Psychology, or established best practice / social convention.

  • Individual creativity and imagination will help us to solve problems which cannot be solved through iteration. This requires a degree of intellectual rebelliousness.

  • It is through a critical understanding of technology and change that we may make intelligent design decisions, highlighting the need for an interdisciplinary approach.

Epistemology
